Bacolod City up to 85th in Tholons IT-BPM list

THE National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) Friday reported that Bacolod City has been listed a notch higher by Tholons International , now at 85th, among the world’s top 100 destination in terms of Information and Technology Business Process Management (IT-BPM) for 2016.

Tholons International is a global firm that engages in consulting, research, education, and investments services for multi-national companies giving them advises where to locate.

In 2015, Tholons has put Bacolod at number 86, seven ranks higher than its 2014 ranking of 93, particularly for outsourcing and offshoring. It has made a record as rank 100 in 2010, and eventually leveled up to number 94 in 2013.

Other Philippine-based cities and destinations recognized by Tholons in the top 100 this year are Manila which retained the second spot. Davao City is up by three notches, now in 66th spot.

Like Bacolod, advancing a notch higher this year are Cebu City, seventh; Sta. Rosa, 81st; Iloilo City, 90th; Baguio, 94th; and Metro Clark, 97th.

Dumaguete City has made a significant record this year for having the biggest leap in a global scale, from above 100 to 93.

Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chair of Visayas ICT Cluster and president of Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT), said they are very grateful for the new achievement of the local ICT industry and will continue to work for the expansion and diversification of its portfolio.

Batapa-Sigue said the federation is looking forward to much aggressive investment campaign on the part of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental for more ICT opportunities, “which can only be achieved if there is unity among political leaders.”

“Setting aside our political conflict will translate to the economic good of the city,” she said. “If we promote collectivity in terms of development, we also need to promote full connectivity among our political leaders.”

Batapa-Sigue said the entire Visayas ICT Cluster is lauding the achievement of Dumaguete City, which is now part of the newly-created Negros Island Region (NIR).

“We are very honored to have two major cities now under the NIR at the top 100 destinations in the world in terms of IT-BPM,” she added. (EPN)
