Iloilo Capitol releases P15-M aid for poor schools

FINANCIAL assistance worth P15.1 million will help improve the learning environment in 60 public schools located in 26 poor municipalities in Iloilo province.

The aid coming from the budget of the Provincial School Board will be used to construct additional school buildings and facilities for the convenience of the teachers and pupils.

“I do not want the children of today to suffer the same predicament I had when I was a pupil in public school,” said Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., who cited an incident where he tripped during his performance due to unstable stage made out of plywood and bamboo in Mina.

Of the total assistance, P7.4 million will be used to repair school buildings stricken by recent typhoons, P4.9 million for construction of school facilities (e.g. stage, fence, covered court, social hall, comfort room), and P2 million for construction of new school buildings.

The remaining P740,000 will be used for the procurement of books, instructional materials, and other school equipment like computers.

The distribution of cheques on Wednesday, February 3, was assisted by Vice Governor Raul Tupas, Maasin Mayor Mariano Malones, Pototan Mayor Tomas Peñflorida, and Mina Mayor Rey Grabato. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno/Capitol News)
