A SON of a former town mayor was arrested while his companion, a former policeman, evaded arrest during a drug bust conducted at Sitio Sit-an, Barangay Poblacion East in Candoni town Sunday.
Police identified the suspects as Jey-Jeck Manzano, 27, of Purok Santan in the said barangay, son of former Candoni Mayor Jeconias Manzano; and William Escalada Jr., 40, formerly assigned at Candoni Municipal Police Station.
Escalada, who went on absent without leave (Awol), is the town’s number one illegal drug personality.
Superintendent Antonietto Cañete, head of Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group in the Fifth and Sixth Districts, said that Escalada handed a sachet of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to a police poseur-buyer in exchange for P500 marked money, but escaped when operatives tried to arrest him.
Manzano yielded two big plastic sachets containing shabu and a homemade 12-gauge shotgun with one live cartridge.
Also recovered from the drug den were seven sachets of shabu, drug paraphernalia, digital weighing scale, four live cartridges of .357 caliber, two live cartridges of .38 caliber, and a live cartridge each of 9mm and 12-gauge shotgun.
The recovered shabu, weighing 33 grams, has an estimated market value of P198,000.
Manhunt operations against Escalada are ongoing while Manzano is in police custody.
Criminal charges are being readied against the two suspects. (MPE)
