AMID the aftershocks being experienced in Taiwan, the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) assured families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) there that the Philippine government is monitoring their situation.
In a statement released late Monday, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said she already instructed Labor Representative to Taiwan Lyn Perez to continuously monitor the statuses of other Filipino workers who may have been affected by the quake.
"As of today, they continue to check whether there are any other OFWs affected by the earthquake," Baldoz said.
Records show that there are an estimated 89,000 OFWs in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, the seven OFWs affected by the tremor were released from hospital.
"All have been released from the hospital and have established communication with their families in the Philippines," said the labor chief.
Baldoz noted that four OFWs were injured while the other three suffered trauma from the earthquake.
Last Saturday, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Tainan City in Taiwan and had left 18 people dead and more than 500 injured. (HDT/Sunnex)
