Capitol: Alert up vs new diseases

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The provincial government of Pampanga headed by Governor Lilia Pineda are now preparing to combat the possible spread of new viruses in the province.

Although no cases have been documented in the province so far, Governor Pineda said that she has alerted the Provincial Health Office to look into the possible spread of the Zika Virus disease and New Castle disease.

Zika Virus disease is a virus transmitted by daytime-active Aedes mosquitoes to humans, almost similar to dengue.

The New Castle disease, meanwhile, is an acute infectious viral fever affecting birds, particularly poultries raised by backyard farmers.

"Ito ngayon yung tutukan ko kasi importante talaga sa akin yung health (This is what I’ll focus because health is really very important to me)," she stressed.

Despite the statement that status of the two diseases in the province are not yet alarming, Governor Pineda said that she will already conduct some precautionary measures.

"Kinakausap ko yung Department of Health at yung veterinarians. Wala pa naman daw pero may mga actions na tayo (I already talked to the Department of Health and veterinarians. There are no cases yet but we already have taken actions)," she said.

The lady governor said she will meet the poultry and livestock sector to hear their concerns and provide assistance.

She added that she will distribute the 146,000 PhilHealth cards granted to him by President Benigno Aquino III to Kapampangan families.

"Gusto ko maging continuous yung success ko sa health program kasi yan yung main concern as head ng probinsya (I want our health programs to be continuously successful because it is my main concern as head of the province)," the governor said.
