Police presents photos of bry. chief’s gunmen

THE Lapu-Lapu City Police showed yesterday the photos of the gunman who shot Basak, Lapu-Lapu Barangay Captain Isabelito “Belong” Darnayla last Saturday night.

Police Senior Supt. Arnel Amor Libed said they identified Eric “Mano” Empaso as the gunman and Moto Daligdig as the accomplice in the ambush.

Libed asked the public to report any details about the two suspects to them.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO) was able to show a photo of Empaso, who has a pending arrest warrant for murder.

The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Anna Marie Militante of Regional Trial Court Branch 53 of Lapu-Lapu City last April 28, 2015.

The LLCPO-Homicide Section filed an attempted murder case against Empaso and Daligdig on Tuesday, after they were identified by Darnayla as the two persons who were in the crime scene.

Last Feb. 6, Darnayla left his house in Sitio Merkado, Basak and drove his black Ford Ranger pickup to the barangay hall past 7 p.m.

While on the road in Sitio Kagudoy, a tricycle blocked him. The tricycle was allegedly driven by Daligdig, a resident of Sitio Iba, Barangay Basak.

Empaso, a resident of Fuentes St. in Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu, came and tapped Daligdig’s shoulder.

The gunman then turned to the driver’s side of the vehicle where he shot several times the barangay captain, according to Darnayla in a dyAb report.

Libed said Empaso tried to evade a checkpoint within the barangay, but was cornered by the Basak barangay tanods three weeks ago.

The incident could have triggered Empaso to shoot the barangay captain.

He said Empaso is a known personality hooked on different illegal activities, including selling illegal drugs and serving as a gun-for-hire.

Ginagamit siya ng mga (He is used by the) drug personalities against their competitors (as gun-for-hire),” Libed told reporters.

Darnayla said the group of Empaso could have been hurt by his anti-illegal drugs campaign.

Siguro para nila nasakitan sila sa akong gibuhat nila pero akong gibuhat para ni sa katawhan (The group involved in illegal drugs might be hurt of my activities against illegal drugs but I’m doing this for the people),” he said in a dyAb report.

Senior Insp. Zenaido Pastorfide, Homicide Section chief, said there are only two suspects they have identified based on Darnayla’s statement.

He said the arrest warrant of Empaso was not served immediately after they received reports that he died in Mindanao.
