THE 2016 Mayor Ramon D. Torres Invitational Chess Cup will be held on February 13-14 at St. John Baptist Parish Covered Court in Barangay Poblacion, Bago City.
The contest will feature Boys and Girls 15 & Under category.
Prizes for winners in both divisions are as follows: champion, P3,500; first runner-up, P2,500; second runner-up, P2,000; third runner-up, P1,500; fourth runner-up, P1,000; fifth to tenth placers, P500 each.
The Youngest Participant Awardee will also be chosen from both divisions.
The tournament will adopt a Swiss System where each player is given one hour and five minutes to finish the game. Each player is required to bring his own chess set and chess clock, and a copy of his/her birth certificate.
Tournament director Ray Hofileña said that long games in chess reinforce the basic knowledge and skills of the young competitive mind of this age-group.
“Joining competitive standard chess tournaments promote mental alertness which challenges young players and bring out their highest level of achievement,” Hofileña added.
The two-day event is held in cooperation with the City Government of Bago, and part of the celebration of its 50th Charter Anniversary and Babaylan Festival.
Registration fee is P200 and deadline of submission of entries is today, February 11.
