STRENGTHENING its presence in Cebu’s healthcare industry, the Asociación Benévola de Cebú, operator of Chong Hua Hospital, has invested P5 billion for a new general hospital in Mandaue City that focuses on comprehensive cancer care for Visayas-Mindanao patients.
The Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue and Cancer Care Center is a 350-bed specialty hospital that sits on 2.2-hectare property along Mantawi International Road. It offers a diverse set of medical services and procedures except obstetrics (OB).
This 11-storey specialty hospital is scheduled to fully operate on Feb. 18. It will initially open 165 hospital beds.
In an interview yesterday, Dr. Helen Po, chief operating officer of Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue, said the association’s move to open a specialty hospital was prompted by the growing number of cancer cases in the country.
Patients from the Visayas and Mindanao, she noted, have to go to Manila for treatment, which is an additional financial burden for their families.
“With our new hospital here, cancer patients from all over the Visayas-Mindanao region will now have access to comprehensive cancer care services,” said Po.
Lawyer Dean Decal, the hospital administrator assured patients that the medical staff of Chong Hua Mandaue armed with their medical expertise and the top-of-the-line medical equipment that will take care of them from diagnosis to treatment until survivorship.
“Everyone will get VIP treatment here. Patients will never get lost (throughout the medical ordeal),” said Dr. Cesar Quiza, the hospital’s medical director. “We assure you of a constant communication between the medical professionals and the patient.”
Aside from treating cancer patients, Quiza emphasized the hospital is also providing Cancer Survivorship Care Services, a wholistic program that includes psychosocial care, the first to be offered in the Philippines for cancer patients. The psychosocial care services covers counseling, mind-body medicine and psychiatry.
The medical institution is also rated Level 4 by the Department of Health for its radiation oncology services, the highest rating and the first outside of Manila.
The Cancer Center offers services such as cancer registry that collects data on cancer type, stage, and treatment results, and offers lifelong patient follow-up.
Patients will also have access to information about clinical trials and new treatment options.
To make the hospital more accessible to the public, Po announced that the hospital pricing at Chong Hua Mandaue is similar to that of Chong Hua Cebu.
“The costing and pricing are all the same,” she said.
Chong Hua Hospital has been providing medical care since 1909. Its first hospital in Fuente Osmeña has about 660 hospital beds employing about 2,000 medical staff.
With the establishment of Chong Hua Mandaue, Po said the hospital management has hired an additional 500 medical staff. The hospital’s human resources is expected to increase should the demand for medical services rise.
Chong Hua Mandaue also houses commercial tenants such as 10 Dove St. There are ongoing negotiations for coffee and salon tenants, among others to open their services inside the specialty hospital.
