CNU to mark kindergarten diamond jubilee

THE Cebu Normal University (CNU) will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of its kindergarten program on June 16-26.

CNU, in cooperation with the Federation of CNU Alumni Associations Inc., will spearhead various events with and for all those who spent a year of their lives as kindergarten of the university since its establishment in 1956.

In 1956, the Parents-Teacher Association of the then Cebu Normal School (CNS) organized the first kindergarten session with CNS alumna, Lourdes Suico, as founding teacher.

The class successfully introduced the children toward developing skills in a group setting without the assistance of their parents. The children learned social skills, self-esteem and developed their academic abilities.

This year, the kindergarten diamond jubilee lined up a series of activities for the celebration.

After the opening salvo on June 16, there will be a “Service Day” on June 17 and 23 where volunteer services will be held for CNU’s extension program beneficiaries in Caputatan Norte, Medellin; Nangka, Balamban and Cebu City urban communities.

There will be a Family Day on June 19 where kindergartners will spend time with their family and friends at CNU campus.

On June 24, 60 outstanding former kindergarten pupils will be recognized in the awards’ night, while on June 25 will be the grand homecoming.

The celebration will culminate with the Diamond K Fun Run, a fund-raising activity with 3K and 5K categories, on June 26.

Prof. Marcelo T. Lopez, CNU president, called on all CNU kindergartners to start the activity among volunteers and colleagues to help make the celebration a success.
