Artmeet: A visual sharing through modern art

WHO would have thought that selfies could be transformed into a work of art? More than just a show of personal photos, student artist Jason Bacunador took photo selfies to a different level. With a combination of pop icons and cartoon images, his selfies made it into the big canvas through painting.

Bacunador is no ordinary artist. He combined various techniques and styles, alongside his experience of being a street artist, while juggling being a student at the University of the Philippines - Cebu. Bacunador has also done countless murals that express different advocacies, with some of them as commissioned works.

Despite being a student arts major taking up Bachelor of Fine Arts, he is also an avid fan of extreme sports. Given that, his every day is not on a routine. That is why in his upcoming exhibit, Narcisson, he tries to share the different life events that eventually molded him into the person that he is today on eight frames of modern art.

“This is the art of our generation. I want to encourage young artists like me to keep on producing the current art,” Bacunador said as he gave his take on the art that will be showcased tomorrow.

Bacunador is only one of the many young artists who aspire to make it in the world of art with the pop culture approach. His first solo exhibit, Narcisson, will be launched tomorrow, April 29, at the second floor of J Centre Mall. The exhibit will run until May 12 and is open to the public. (PR)
