Chiongbian joins elite team

ONE of Cebu’s top junior triathletes, Fredric Yuan Chiongbian, has been included as a member of Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) team after the selection process in Rayong, Thailand this month.

This information was relayed to Sun.Star Cebu by Chiongbian’s mother, Millette.

The 15-year-old Chiongbian of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) was among the four out of 26 formidable triathletes who stood out to become ASTC scholars.

As part of the ASTC development goals, Chiongbian will be sent to Sydney, Australia on March 4 to 13 for an advanced training camp.

The other three triathletes named to the team are Mohamad Alsabbagh of Syria and Chih-An Yi and Lin Chic Feng from Chinese Taipei. The triathlon team will be manned by International Triathlon Union (ITU) facilitator and coach Peter Clifford of Australia.

The selection of these four athletes was based on their athletic skills, performance and potential they showed in the week-long training camp in Thailand. Chiongbian, the 2015 Ironkids Philippines champion, was selected to be part of the ASTC team, which will be sent to various camps and will get support in big races.
