THREE people were killed and another was wounded during skirmishes between a group of Abu Sayyaf men and a Moro National Liberation Front rebel in Indanan, Sulu on Friday afternoon.
The incident broke out when Abu Sayyaf men, led by an unnamed son of Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Sibih Pisih, shot and wounded Sakur Madjang around 5:40 p.m. in Sitio Santol, Barangay Buanza.
The Abu Sayyaf men also burned the house of Madjang.
Brigadier General Alan Arrojado, commander of the military's Joint Task Group Sulu, said Madjang's brother, Gabir, responded and fought it out with the Abu Sayyaf men.
The firefight resulted in the death of Gabir, an MILF fighter who was once integrated into the Armed Forces as part of the peace agreement signed by the MNLF with government in 1996.
The 15-minute clash also led to the killing of one Mursid Amdanan, who is with the Madjang brothers; and the unnamed son of the Abu Sayyaf sub-leader.
The Madjang brothers are said to be relatives of MNLF commander Khaid Ajibon. Sakur is currently confined at the Sulu provincial hospital.
"The said incident is accordingly caused by the previous violent encounters between the MNLF and the ASG (Abu Sayyaf Group)," saod Arrojado.
Arrojado said the Abu Sayyaf had been suspecting the Madjangs as military informants and were being blamed for the death of Abu Sayyaf follower Abu Quodama last February 7.
Arrojado said Haber has pending warrants of arrest for his participation in the kidnapping of 21 people, mostly Europeans, in April of 2000 in the island dive resort of Sipadan, Malaysia and in the kidnapping of 20 people, including an three Americans, in May 2001 in the Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte.(VR/Sunnex/Bong Garcia)
