P45-M worth of marijuana destroyed in Benguet

PHILIPPINE anti-narcotics agencies have destroyed P45.244-million worth of fully-grown marijuana plants, seedlings and dried stalks during simultaneous marijuana eradication in various sitios of Kibungan and Bakun, Benguet recently.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. said no cultivators were arrested during the operation.

The teams, composed of agents from PDEA–Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA-CAR), Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Group-Police Regional Office Cordillera, Kibungan Municipal Police Station, Atok Municipal Police Station, Tublay Municipal Police Station, Sablan Municipal Police Station, Bakun Municipal Police Station and Regional Public Safety Battalion, conducted simultaneous marijuana eradications in Sitios Lanipew, Bana, Dalipey of Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet; Sitios Dacap, Pugongan, Ka-ang, Nagawa, Naba Gusadan, Agay-ay and Caday of Barangay Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet.

The operations resulted in the discovery of 81 marijuana plantation sites with a total land area of 23,430 square meters.

The operating teams were able to destroy and burned on-site 231,210 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants, 20,900 pieces of marijuana seedlings and 110,000 grams of dried marijuana stalks in 81 marijuana plantation sites.

"This recent marijuana eradication operation shows the strong cooperation and coordination among law enforcement units to curb illegal drug activities," Cacdac said. (SDR/Sunnex)
