College student abducted in Sulu, freed

A COLLEGE student who was kidnapped allegedly by Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members in Patikul, Sulu was released after two weeks, a military official said.

Task Force Sulu spokesperson Allan Arrojado said Omar Carlo Masdal, 20, student of Sulu State College, was released around 11 a.m. on Saturday in Baranggay Latih.

Arrojado said the Moro National Liberation Front helped in the negotiation for the release of Masdal, who was reportedly a nephew of the late MNLF commander Habier Malik.

Masdal was captured by ASG members allegedly led by Abdel Dela Cruz on February 14, Arrojado said.

He said the victim has returned to his family after undergoing stress debriefing. (Sunnex)
