Cagayan de Oro to regulate junk shops

THE Cagayan de Oro City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) mulls to regulate junk shops in the city as part of their solid waste management programs.

Clenro Chief Edwin Dael said his office has already drafted an ordinance to be submitted to the City Council once finalized.

Dael also said junk shop should be monitored and regulated since most of junk shop operations do not have proper management of the different wastes.

“Para masiguro nato nga mabantayan nato ning mga junk shops kay ang uban walay sakto nga management unya hugaw ba ya na", Dael said.

A junk shop operating across the dumpsite was reportedly complained by residents for improper management.

The dumpsite is currently undergoing closure and rehabilitation works.

Clenro has been monitoring at the said junk shop which had secured a business permit.

City Council’s environment committee chairman Councilor Dometilo Acenas Jr., said he supports the proposal of Clenro.

“If it would be good for the public ato nang suportahan,” Acenas said.

Acenas would look into the proposal to ensure that the ordinance regulating junk shops would be fair-for public’s welfare and for the business owners.

“Klase-klase man pud ang junk shops and dapat naa gyud pud sakto nga management,” Acenas said.

Acenas added his committee is willing to work with Clenro in programs that would benefit the general public.
