Kin of slain Negrense OFW seeks DFA help

THE family of the slain Negrense Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates asked the help of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Bacolod City to facilitate the transport of the victim’s body back to the province.

Maria Lenlie Oliverio, 25, of Barangay Guiljungan, Cauayan town, was believed to have been brutally killed by her Indian national live-in partner inside the house they are staying at International City in Dubai last February 18.

Oliverio, who has been working in Dubai for almost four years already, sustained multiple stab wounds.

Her parents, Eddie and Helen, along with their relatives went to the DFA- Bacolod Office Wednesday to appeal for the agency’s assistance and immediate action.

Oliverio’s mother told Sun.Star Bacolod that she wants her daughter’s remains be returned to them as soon as possible.

“We will continue to call for justice for Lenlie, but we want to have her body back first,” she said.

The victim’s father, a fisherman, said DFA-Bacolod has assured them of help and will immediately contact their family for any development.

“We grieve for what happened to my daughter, but we want to be guided by the proper procedures so we asked assistance from the DFA,” he said, adding that since their eldest child was the breadwinner of the family, she decided to work in Dubai to support them. Oliverio’s photos with calls for justice over her death have gone viral on social media Monday.

In the Facebook pages of other OFWs in Dubai, they are asking the help of the netizens to spread the incident so that Oliverio’s family in Negros Occidental will be informed about it.

Currently, the family have only limited information as to the status of the case. What they knew is, there were four persons reportedly detained, but the live-in partner and an ex-boyfriend of the victim were released.

In a report of GMA News, Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes said they are already conducting further investigation on the incident with the police in Dubai.

He said they will help in the transport of Oliverio’s body back to the country, and assured her family that the government will seek justice for her death.

Mayor John Rey Tabujara told Sun.Star Bacolod Wednesday that the local government of Cauayan will also provide aid to the family of the victim.

Tabujara said the Municipal Government will shoulder the expenses for the transport of her remains to Cauayan as soon as it arrives in Manila.

The local government also intends to give livelihood assistance to the family, he added.
