Zamboanga siege victims receive permanent shelter

THE National Housing Authority and the City Government of Zamboanga turned over on Thursday some 233 permanent shelters to people who were displaced during the 21-day September 2013 siege.

The beneficiaries of the permanent shelters are among the families displaced after clashes broke out last September 9, 2013 between government troopers and faction of the Moro National Liberation Front.

The 233 houses on stilts, which were constructed in village of Mariki, are among the 642 permanent shelters to be built in the area through the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction project.

Six housing units were also turned over in Phase 1 of Ayer Village, Barangay Sta. Barbara. It is among the 79 permanent shelters to be built in Ayer Village.

The villages of Mariki and Sta. Barbara are among the most affected barangays during the September 2013 crisis.

Salazar also assured that the septage requirements are complied with before the houses on stilts were turned over to the beneficiaries.

The mayor added that each of the beneficiary will also receive P10,000 for electrical and water connections of their new houses. (Bong Garcia)
