'Art for everyone' at SM Lanang on Saturday

AROUND 100 artists are set to showcase their art in different mediums starting Saturday, February 27, at SM Lanang Premiere in Davao City.

The two-day art fair entitled "Art for Everyone" will be held starting on Saturday until Sunday at all SM malls in support of National Arts Month on its 25th year.

One of the exhibitors of the art fair Rodney Yap during the Fast Fridays media forum held at SM Lanang Bowling land said that the art fair is an opportunity for Davao Artists to showcase their art.

"It is an opportunity for emerging artists of Davao to showcase their artwork and this is also a joint collaboration of the emerging artists" Yap said.

Dinky Munda, President of the Tabula Rasa group and one of the exhibitors, also said that the main advocacy of the exhibit is to stress that art is for everyone.

He said that they also advocate to make Davao city as center of art as it is the homeplace of some world class artists.

Bryan Cabrera, participating artist, sees this as an avenue to enhance the public’s awareness of the existing art culture.

"The growing art culture should not be left behind, as we produce wonderful works here," Cabrera said.

He added that this should also be an avenue to encourage people to buy artworks.

Meanwhile, Yap said that the varied styles and medium, done in oil, acrylic, pen and mixed media.

"Some of the artworks are actually finalists of Philippine Art awards, and Metrobank and Shell Art Awards so it is a great opportunity that the award winning artists have supported this event and they allowed me to collect the artwork for exhibit," Yap said. (KVC)
