Police form task force after Saudi cleric's shooting

POLICE have formed a task force following the shooting of a prominent Saudi Arabian cleric in Zamboanga City on Tuesday night.

Zamboanga City Regional Police Office spokesperson Senior Inspector Helen Galvez said the Special Investigation Task Group WMSU (Western Mindanao State University), which is composed of the police and military, was activated to assure proper investigation of the incident which involves Saudi Arabian cleric Aidh Al Qarni and religious attaché Sheik Turki Assaegh.

The two were about to leave the WMSU where they conducted a lecture for an Islamic forum when a lone gunman appeared from the crowd and shot them.

The two were brought to the hospital and were declared out of danger.

Al-Qarni sustained gun shot wound in his right shoulder, left arm and chest, while Assaegh’s right thigh and left leg were wounded.

Galvez said the suspect identified as Rugasan Misuari III, a 21-year old engineering student of the WMSU, was shot and killed by the responding authorities.

Galvez said they invited two more individuals  for interrogation, both were Misuari’s companion, as they attended the event for their possible involvement in the shooting.

She said police are investigating the motive of the attack. (Sunnex)
