Local absentee voting application deadline extended to March 31

THE period for the application for local absentee voting has been extended to March 31, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Wednesday.

Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista said the commission en banc has extended the deadline from the original date of March 7 to give more time to the voters who will not be able to vote on May 9.

The local absentee voting would be allowed for government officials and employees rendering poll services during the Election Day.

Included were members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and members of the media.

Earlier, Bautista said that those would will not be able to vote on May 9 must apply for local absentee voting in Comelec offices where they intend to vote.

The poll body said that members of the media in the National Capital Region (NCR) should file applications at the Comelec NCR regional director's office.

Local absentee voting would be from April 27 until April 29 2016. (Sunnex)
