A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was caught sniffing shabu with three adults in a suspected drug den in the town of Cordova, Cebu shortly before last Friday dawn.
The boy, whose identity is withheld for being a minor, was one of male suspects caught red-handed by law enforcers in simultaneous operations against illegal drugs across Cebu over the weekend.
While they rescued the boy, the Cordova police arrested his companions identified as Sherwin Membrillos, 19; Franklin Tecson, 24; and Ricky Obregon, 29.
Insp. Zosimo Jabas, the town’s chief of police, said they also arrested the operation’s target and owner of the suspected drug den, 29-year-old Joseph Tiro Rosani.
The drug den is located in the middle of Sitio Datag, Poblacion.
Shortly before midnight, an undercover cop pretended to be a junkie and bought a small pack of shabu worth P200 outside Rosani’s house.
The decoy then introduced himself as a police officer and declared Rosani under arrest. The latter tried to get back inside but he was intercepted.
When police entered his house, they found two teenagers and two adults huddled around smoking shabu in tin foil strips. They also found seven small sachers and two medium packs of shabu with an estimated street worth of P47,000 and several drug paraphernalia.
Methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, is priced by the Dangerous Drugs Board at P11,800 per gram.
Jabas estimated the contraband’s weight at four grams.
On the same day, operatives of the Malabuyoc Police Station arrested Jeno Macion, 35, in a buy-bust that led to the seizure of three sachets of shabu in Sitio Buntol, Barangay Montaneza.
In Bogo City, 47-year-old Jolito Rublica and 27-year-old Norwin Monares also fell into the hands of police for yielding two sachets of what appeared to be shabu and some drug paraphernalia in Barangay Taytayan shortly before lunchtime.
The suspects will face criminal complaints for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
