Use of eco bags pushed

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City Government of San Fernando under the stewardship of Mayor Edwin Santiago, encourages the public to use environment-friendly bags instead of non-biodegradable materials such as sando and plastic bags.

In line with this, women entrepreneurs who underwent trainings under the city’s livelihood programs shall receive assistance in producing eco bags, which will be made from 100-percent recyclable material.

“With this, we are providing livelihood opportunities to our constituents while promoting environmental protection through the implementation of our city ordinance” said Santiago.

For two years now, the City Government has implemented Ordinance 2014-008 also known as the plastic-free ordinance of the City of San Fernando, Pampanga wherein no store shall utilize or provide free plastic bags as primary and secondary packaging materials on goods to customers except those pre-packed goods by manufacturers.

Meanwhile, the Gender and Development (GAD) Office launched last March 9 a hand painting (eco bag) design contest to identify the official design of the local government unit’s eco bag. This was participated in by Fernandino high school and college students.

“In this competition, we are not only showcasing the skills and talents of our students, we are helping our Fernandina entrepreneurs make their product sellable” said Amy Catacutan, GAD focal person.

Winners of the contest are Champion---John Paul Gagan (Pampanga High School); first runner up---Jandel Ocampo (Lyndale Academy); second runner up---Marc Gonzales (Pampanga High School). (CSF-CIO)
