Briones: Light that wasn’t

I WASN'T going to write about politics in my last column. In fact, I just wanted to briefly mention the plight of my favorite singing legislator in the south district. But I got carried away. So there.

Today, I will keep my word. Really.

I'm not even going to mention Assistant Cebu City Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro's alleged tantrum inside the headquarters of the Police Regional Office 7.

Castro, whose middle name is apparently controversy, allegedly attacked Maricel Raffinan Gregory, the rumored live-in girlfriend of her estranged husband Leodegreco (Greco) Sanchez, brother of Provincial Board Gigi Sanchez and son of the late former vice governor and Lactopafi founder Gregorio Sanchez Jr., and some police officers of the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG).

Aside from allegedly hiring four men to destroy the door of the RSOG office, the 47-year-old fiscal also bit the left forearm of Senior Insp. Ruel Burlat. Uh-huh!

And despite all the fracas she has caused, Castro plans to file complaints against the police officers. Yes, you read me right.

But enough of her, this isn't about “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” It wasn't like the couple was married for years. After all, Castro and Greco only got hitched last August in private Muslim rites.

Two months later, in October, cracks were beginning to show in their union that had raised some eyebrows.

Greco claimed the Ford Ranger he had just bought had disappeared and that his wife, Castro, was the only one with the spare key. Although he fell short of accusing her of taking it, he was more forthcoming with the loss of his father's Rolex watch. He said she had it and wouldn't return it.

In fairness to Castro, she said the watch was her wedding dowry. As for the vehicle, well, she said it was registered under both their names. And anyway, she said she didn't have it because it had been carnapped.

So there. That's the end of that. Although I have to admit, to openly challenge authorities like she did last Tuesday, Castro must have been super miffed.

And why shouldn't she be?

Greco, under the law, is still married to another woman. As for Gregory, she is reportedly pregnant with their third child. Yup, he reportedly went back to her when his marriage to Castro turned sour.

The only reason he and Castro were able to tie the knot was because he converted to Islam.

By the way, this is the same guy who pursued Castro after they met in 2013 at the Cebu City jail. According to her, she berated him when he first called her to express his feelings. She said she warned him to stop using her in his drug case.

But did the phone scolding stop Greco from courting Castro? He reportedly even asked some of his friend policemen to help him get in touch with her.

He also wrote her a love letter, telling her he finally “found a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Judging by recent developments, though, that “light” wasn't Castro.
