Iloilo stages unity walk for labor sector

ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias will lead some 10,000 government workers, barangay officials and representatives of non-government organizations in the city's first unity walk to be done Friday in support to the labor sector.

The walk on May 1 will start in two points in the city center. It will traverse at least a kilometer distance from the Provincial Capitol and from Iznart Rizal up to the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, where a short program will be held.

Mabilog said Iloilo will honor the laborers as the country celebrates Labor Day on May 1. The activity, he added, is expected to generate more appreciation to the labor sector as the engine of the country’s growth and development.

The unity walk will also show unified support to President Benigno Aquino III and the programs of his administration, particularly in alleviating the plight of the labor sector, the mayor added.

Mabilog said Friday's walk is the first activity initiated by the City to honor the the labor sector.
