BFP still probing cause of Alijis fire

THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has yet to determine the cause of the fire that hit a house in Kamuning Street, Block 27 Woodside 1, Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, on Saturday, March 13.

The fire killed eight-year-old Kent Toledo, while his younger brother Tommy, 4, was injured.

Superintendent Rodolfo Denaga, city fire marshal, said on Monday, March 14, that investigators were still gathering evidence and validating the statements of witnesses.

The BFP was also awaiting the result of the autopsy on Kent, who was trapped inside the house.

His younger brother Tommy managed to run outside and suffered burns on his head, chest, and lower body.

The boy is confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and is now in stable condition, Denaga said.

Only the two brothers were inside the house when the fire started just before 7 p.m. Their mother, Gigi, was out buying food while their father was at work.

The Toledo family serves as a caretaker of the house, which was made of light materials. The household has no electricity, and uses kerosee lamps at night. (MAP)
