CHR sets consultation on women’s rights

THE Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is conducting a consultation on Thursday with different stakeholders to discuss issues and concerns in line with the observance of Women’s Month.

CHR Regional Director Frederick Capin said the consultation will be held in coordination with the Gener Equality and Women’s Human Rights Center (GEWHRC).

Among the issues they will tackle are the following: access to justice including violence against women; access to services for marginalized women, women’s issues in the context of displacement and developmental aggression, and issues on the implementation of the Reproductive Health Law including policies and practices in relation to access to reproductive health services.

Capin said the data that will be gathered during the consultation will provide for the baseline for the Regional Fact Finding and Public Inquiry to be held tentatively in April in Zamboanga City.

He said the data will likewise form part of the Commission’s submission to the Committee on the Elimination of All Forces of Discrimination Against Women.

He said the activity is in line with the Women’s Month celebration, which is anchored on the theme “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda.” (Bong Garcia)
