Pamintuan is most outstanding mayor anew

ANGELES CITY -- This city's local chief executive was once again recognized by an international award-giving body as one of the most outstanding mayors of the country for his remarkable achievements in the field of public service.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan received the Most Outstanding Mayor in the Philippines Award for 2016, conferred by Superbrands Marketing International (SMI), Wednesday at The City Club in Makati City.

This is the fourth time the Angeles City mayor was given the award, after bagging it in years 2012, 2014 and 2015.

SMI is an international award-giving body engaged in consumer and service products. With the Most Outstanding Mayor Awards, they have embarked on an endeavor to acknowledge local chief executives who play a role with nation building.

According to Pamintuan, the award came as a surprise, as he thought that the third time in 2015 was the last time Superbrands would confer it to him.

“It seems that Superbrands wanted to give me the award for the fourth year in recognition of our efforts and achievements in Angeles City," Pamintuan said.

"While I am proud of this award, I am also humbled by it. It gives me the strength to work harder for the city and the people of Angeles," Pamintuan added.

Meanwhile, Karl McLean, Chairman of SMI, said that they give out the award to unsung heroes such as the mayors of cities and municipalities who have truly done tremendous developments in their respective locales.

“We have consistently extended the award to Mayor Pamintuan because what he does for Angeles is just beautiful… [he] deserves to be emulated by neighboring local governments in the region,” McLean said.

The Angeles City mayor was awarded along with 19 other mayors in the country. He is one of three Kapampangans to join this year’s roster, with Edwin Santiago of the City of San Fernando and Emmanuel Alejandrino of Arayat also receiving the said award.

Some of Pamintuan’s notable projects include the establishment of the City College of Angeles, the improvement of the Ospital ning Angeles with new facilities such as the Renal Care Center and the Internal Cardiac Care Unit, the planting of over 250,000 trees in the city alongside the creation of public parks and the beautification of the Angeles heritage zone.

Last January, the administration of Pamintuan also broke ground for the construction of Angeles City’s own public cemetery. The mayor also plans to put up a state-of-the-art command center at the city hall to bolster the local police’s efforts in combating crime while also improving the overall traffic situation in the city.
