FIVE persons were hurt yesterday afternoon in a collision involving five vehicles along the national highway in Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla.
Police said the smashup caused heavy traffic on the south highway, affecting vehicles coming from Naga City, Talisay City and the South Road Properties in Cebu City.
Investigation conducted by PO3 George Campomanes revealed that the accident began when an Isuzu Elf mini dump truck (RLD-453), which came from delivering gravel in Talisay City, collided with a Cebu City-bound 10-wheeler truck (GXH-891) transporting 80 sacks of wheat flour.
The 10-wheeler truck fell on its side and blocked the road. The acceded occurred at 2:40 p.m. and caused a traffic gridlock that lasted for more than three hours.
PO1 Alvin Traya, in a separate interview, said the 10-wheeler truck was towed past 6 p.m.
Before the road was cleared, however, an L-300 van hit the rear of the Elf dump truck. Shortly after, a Fuzo mini dump truck and a passenger multicab, which had no passengers aboard, collided with the L-300 van.
“Kusog gyud kaayo ilang dagan kay ang helper aning Fuzo nalagpot gud paingon sa multicab (They were traveling at high speed. The helper of the Fuzo mini dump truck was thrown toward the multicab),” said Campomanes in a Sun.Star Superbalita report.
Albert Seguismar, driver of the 10-wheeler truck, broke his feet and was rushed to a public hospital. His helper, 17-year-old Jonas Alestre, also suffered injuries.
The other injured persons were the Isuze Elf driver Emerson Bartido, 32; Rommel Traya, 38; and Henry Gore, 38.
Campomanes said that they will continue their investigation to determine the real cause of the accident.
