Fruit vendor killed by neighbor

A FRUIT vendor was stabbed to death by his neighbor at Purok Katilingban, Barangay 40, Bacolod City, on Saturday morning, March 19.

Police identified the fatality as Elbe Mellendez, 55, of Barangay 40.

Mellendez was on his way home when Rudy de Jesus, 52, allegedly attacked him using a butcher’s knife.

Chief Inspector Jovil Sedel, chief of Police Station 6, said on Sunday, March 20, that before the incident, a heated argument ensued between Mellendez and the suspect.

The victim was rushed to The Doctors’ Hospital where he was declared dead.

Sedel said De Jesus attempted to escape, but he was cornered by operatives and barangay tanods in Barangay 40.

Police recovered the butcher’s knife from De Jesus’s possession.

Sedel said police would file a murder complaint against the suspect, who is detained at the police station. (MAP)
