Baguio media group set for tourism project

OFFICERS of the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC) are ready to conduct its annual selection of Lucky Summer Visitors (LSV) while most of the country is having their Holy Week escapades.

The LSV is the counterpart project of the BCBC in helping sustain the tourism industry of Baguio and the province of Benguet by choosing first time visitors for a four-day red carpet treatment from March 24-27.

Early Monday, BCBC camp director Dhodie Mendillo with the help of BCBC members opened Camp Peppot in Burnham Park to serve as rendezvous area for the local media during the Holy Week.

BCBC President Ramon Dacawi recalls the annual LSV is an over 50-year old project of the club in partnership with the City Government of Baguio, the province of Benguet, the municipalities of La Trinidad and Tuba and the various government agencies and other companies and private partners.

A whole-day seminar on journalism and broadcasting were held Tuesday at the conference hall of the Mines and Geoscience Bureau Cordillera for interns and students.

Topics included photojournalism, radio and TV broadcasting, sports writing, feature and news writing.

A "Kapihan a Baguio" media forum is also slated today, March 23, with the different officials of Baguio City, Benguet, government agencies and private partners serving as panelists.

The selection of LSV will be early Thursday with BCBC officers and members traveling to Rosario, La Union for the selection.

Once lucky visitors are selected, a courtesy call will be held at the Barangay Twin Peaks, Tuba and a quick stop to the Lions Head will follow, after which, visitors will be brought to the Baguio City Hall for a courtesy call to Mayor Mauricio Domogan.

The LSVs will then be checked in at the Hotel Supreme and will be having a tour at Mines View, Mansion and the Wright Park before they will be presented to members of BCBC at the Media Camp later that night with the grand welcome.

On Friday, the lucky visitors will tour the different landmarks of Baguio and Benguet like the Crosby Park in place for the usual underground tour at the Balatoc Mines in Itogon, Benguet. They will also visit and Pugo Adventure in La Union.

On Saturday, the visitors will also have a chance to visit the Strawberry Festival of La Trinidad and experience strawberry picking at the valley’s famous Strawberry Fields, Benguet Museum and Tam-awan Village. Benguet Gov. Nestor Fongwan and La Trinidad Mayor Edna Tabanda will welcome the visitors in the vegetable and flower capital of the Philippines.

Apart from the free guided tours, the lucky visitors will also be treated to nightly shows by the various local performers.

On Easter Sunday, the BCBC will have parlor games for children while the visitors plant trees at Busol watershed prior to the send-off program.
