Baguio fire guts 2 apartment buildings

TWO apartment buildings along Phase 2 at Green Valley were razed by fire around 9:00 a.m., according to a report of the Bureau of Fire and Protection-Baguio.

BFP-Baguio Fire marshal Joe Fernand Bangyod said they are still investigating the cause of the fire and the amount of damaged properties since only the roof and the cement walling remained intact.

The two-storey apartment building were built one meter apart.

Ten occupants were rendered homeless according to Bangyod and have sought shelter with their relatives in the neighborhood.

911 on Call president Rafael Valencia, who was the first to arrive at the scene said most of the occupants were already out of danger except for two elderlies who needed lifting to safe ground.

By the time 911 arrived, the fire already engulfed the first building while fire out was declared at 11:00 a.m., according to Valencia.

BFP-Baguio recorded three other fire incidences earlier this March.

Two of the fire incidents were grass fires in John Hay and Crystal Cave while the third was a structural fire in Pucay involving a bungalow-type house made of light materials.

In February, there were five fire incidents while in January, there were six fires reported. While there were no fatalities or persons injured due to the fire, the BFP-Baguio recorded over P2 million amount of damages in properties for the first two months of 2016.
