Avon and Richard Yap speak out vs domestic violence

ON ITS 130th year of empowering women all over the world, Avon strengthens its efforts to end domestic violence against women through its global Speak Out Against Domestic Violence (SOADV) program. Since its inception in 2004, the global campaign has helped raise funds, build awareness, educate, prevent, and maintain victim support programs.

In the Philippines, Richard Yap continues to advocate for the cause as its ambassador for the second consecutive year. “The issue of violence against women has been kept behind closed doors long enough. Men can be victims of partner violence, too, but the vast majority of those affected are women, making this a vital issue for women and families worldwide. All of us – men and women alike – must band together to end this injustice. I invite all of you to join us in giving a voice to victims. Through our collaborative and relentless campaigning, we can break this cycle now,” he says.

Avon Philippines’ General Manager Emie Aguilar-Nierves says, “Part of Avon’s commitment to Beauty for a Purpose has always been standing up and speaking out for causes closest to women. One in three women worldwide is affected by domestic and partner violence. This is an alarming statistic, yet so many women in the Philippines refrain from speaking out. That’s why Avon is committed to giving them a voice, and one of the most direct ways to do this is by helping maintain hotline numbers throughout the country.”

Nierves furthers, “The funds raised through Avon’s SOADV campaign will be used in the maintenance of the hotlines of our dedicated NGO partners – Women’s Crisis Center (WCC) in Manila, Gender Watch Against Violence and Exploitation (GWAVE) in Dumaguete, ING Makababaying Aksyon (IMA) Foundation in Pampanga, and the Legal Center for Women and Children (LUNA) in Davao. Keeping these lines open are a crucial step in eradicating domestic violence, as most women are simply too afraid to report incidents and seek help.”

This year, you can support the cause by purchasing Avon’s Skin So Soft Advance White with Stem Essence Hand & Body Lotion at a regular price of P390. With every bottle sold, a portion of the sales will go to Avon’s abovementioned partners.

Recently, Avon and the Avon Foundation for Women announced a significant milestone: $1 billion in contributions dedicated to causes that matter most to women. In honor of International Women’s Day, Avon recognized this special achievement globally and commended the collective efforts of its Representatives, Associates, consumers and supporters who contributed in reaching the achievement.

Join Avon in its mission to create awareness and raise funds for the SOADV cause. Break the silence and speak out.
