Birthday celebrant drowns in Oslob swimming pool

A TELECOMMUNICATION agent who was celebrating his birthday drowned in the swimming pool of a resort in Barangay Tan-awan, Oslob on the night of Easter Sunday.

On his 19th birthday, police said, Diego Rabusa Jr. did not reach the hospital alive.

The victim was seen by one of his fellow agents at the bottom of the pool of MB’s Sunrise Resort around 6 p.m.

Rabusa, a resident of Cebu City, was rushed by his friends to Oslob District Hospital, but the attending doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Before Rabusa was found in the pool, his friends failed to notice that he went for a swim.

They thought the victim was sleeping in their car, but they did not find him in the vehicle when they looked for him.

Elmer Echavez later saw Rabusa in the deeper portion of the pool, motionless.

PO2 Ariel Taguiam, in a phone interview, said investigation showed the victim was not drunk before the incident.

Rabusa possibly slipped before he drowned. Police suggested to the family to let the victim’s body undergo autopsy to determine the real cause of death.

The victim was the third person to drown during the observance of the Holy Week.

Six-year-old Noel Amad Calipay drowned in the seawaters off Barangay Poblacion, San Remigio on Black Saturday.

On Good Friday, Fyrus Tucong Salimbulong, 19, died after he jumped into the water from a bridge in Liloan.
