House lawmakers rally behind Pacquiao

MEMBERS of the House of Representatives have expressed their support for Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao in his upcoming bout against American Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday.

House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said that whether Pacquiao win or lose the welterweight unification match dubbed "Battle for Greatness" will further define the Filipino boxing champ's career.

"Manny's feat has not only created a legacy in the history of boxing but his rags-to-riches story likewise continues to inspire our youth that determination and hard work do lead to success," said Belmonte.

Deputy Speaker Giorgidi Aggabao said Pacquiao's speed and power will be his big asset against the flamboyant Mayweather.

He said Filipinos should remain united whatever will the outcome in of the fight in the end.

Isabela Representative Rodolfo Albano III said there is no doubt that the eight-division world boxing champion will emerge as the winner because of his rigid training, speed, power and indomitable spirit to prevail over any challenge.

"You have all the qualities and endowments of a true champion. Remain humble and magnanimous in victory or in defeat," said Albano.

Cebu Representative Gwendolyn Garcia also likewise wished Pacquiao well and assured his fellow Visayan of her all-out support.

"My sincerest prayers and wishes for a decisive victory for Manny and the entire Filipino nation," said Garcia.

Davao City Representatives Isidro Ungab and Karlo Alexei Nograles said the bout would once again display the resoluteness, wisdom and strength of Pacquiao, which will be instrumental to his victory.

"May he bring home the crown of success that will symbolize the greatness of the Filipino spirit," said Ungab.

"Win or lose, we are proud of you Manny, our Pambansang Kamao from Mindanao," said Nograles.

ACT-CIS Party-list Representative Samuel Pagdilao said the overwhelming and constant support of Filipinos provides inspiration to Pacquiao to win his bouts.

"His victory in this epic battle will unify and rally our people behind a great champion," said Pagdilao.

Deputy Speaker Carlos Padilla said the country would be united in rooting and praying for the safe and convincing win of Pacquiao as they have done in the past.

"May the Lord protect him during the entire duration of the highly- anticipated megafight," said Padilla. (Sunnex)
