Zamboangueño shines in Japan karate tournament

ZAMBOANGA City Mayot Isabelle Climaco-Salazar lauded a local athlete for bringing honor to the city by winning in a karate competition in Japan .

Climaco-Salazar commended Jose Felix Balan for bagging two bronze medals during the Shito Ryu Shukokai World Cup (male kata, 16-17 years old category) in Amagasaki, Japan held on March 24 to 28.

Balan, a resident of Barangay Putik, Zamboanga City, was part of the Zamboanga delegation to the Philippine National Games (PNG) 2016 held from March 7 to 11 in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

The delegation harvested a total of 119 medals composed of 44 gold, 37 silver, and 38 bronze medals in the PNG.

Salazar also commended Balan’s coaches and trainors for the effort and for bringing honor and fame to the city. (Bong Garcia)
