Football, football games up

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte -- Davao Region's football and futsal teams open their 2015 Palarong Pambansa bid in separate venues here today.

The region's elementary boys football team collides with Northern Mindanao at 8:20 a.m. at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex while the secondary boys football team clashes against Zamboanga Peninsula at 3:30 p.m. today at the Energy Park.

The region's futsal team battles Western Visayas at 4 p.m. at the Apokon Gym. The team, coached by Rachelle delos Reyes and Julio Orcasitas, Jr., will lean on team captain Angela Bea de Luna, Michael Louise Co, Bea Felice Panganiban, Patricia Erika Francisco, Chiyo Jan Marasigan, Felice Gabrielle Tuason, Allyn Ravanes, Joyce Semacio, Samaika Lagbawan, Mary Grace Puray, Azenith Ducase and Jenny Muya.

Futsal, however, is just a demonstration sport along with billiards, wrestling, wushu and secondary girls sepak takraw.

Coach Delos Reyes said the girls have to make major adjustments from playing football to futsal.

"This is our first time to join but as long as the girls will stay focused on the game, we have a good chance in winning our bracket.

Western Visayas is made up mostly of players from San Carlos City whom we have played in Alaska Cup, Thirsty Cup and Rifa Cup in football. Now our encounter will be in futsal," Delos Reyes said. (MLSA)
