OUR ancestors living in pre-historic villages would always welcome visitors with a feast. Personal accommodation was extended to house guests by offering the best bedroom for the night. The best food and entertainment were made available as a gesture of hospitality.
We are a people that value friendship. We are honored to have visitors in our family or community. We are proud to showcase our style of hospitality to guests. Our kind of hospitality lives on and we carry it as a brand for our tourism industry. Hospitality is fun and it has been in our culture.
Culture is the sum of people’s way of life. As Filipinos, we understand that culture has its positive and negative aspects. Filipinos always seek to conserve and catalyze culture that is positive. In our “more fun” strategy, we always plan and create committees to handle varied activities. Hospitality starts upon arrival…bus station, airport or seaport.
The hot reception is always sprinkled with words of welcome, songs, dances, music, and food. Smile comes easy for a Filipino. Our smile is a gesture of friendship. A fiesta celebration is the best cultural package of hospitality that could be extended to guests.
Our fiesta is a gathering of the people from all walks of life to see the best cultural program, to taste the best food, and the opportunity to meet the important persons (public officials, celebrities, patrons, and sponsors). We love to bring visitors to our tourist attractions… beaches, museums, waterfalls, restaurants, monuments, farms, souvenir shops, schools, factories, among others.
We always see to it that our visitors are informed, educated, and entertained. They will never forget the Filipino brand of hospitality. We give the best goodbye during the sendoff ceremony. “Pasalubong” package are always provided by the host. Parting is sweet goodbye. We send them off with hugs (kisses as needed), sweet words, songs, and dances.
We always tell them to come back and bring some more relatives and friends. Filipino hospitality is a product of what comes out of the heart. It is always collective. A visitor is not just the guest of the mayor but the guest of the entire community. Filipino hospitality is seen, felt, and appreciated. We make it lasting. It lingers on after a passage of time.
Where do we find hospitality? Hospitality starts with the individual Filipino. Hospitality is the sum total of positive outlook that develops out of tradition. Hospitality can only be equated if felt and understood by the visitors. Hospitality contaminates. If you give it, it is given back.
Start your day by being hospitable to yourself…good grooming. Project hospitality. Communicate hospitality… care for others. Be hospitable to your city and country…promote the Philippines!
