40 drug suspects arrested in One-Time, Big-Time ops

FORTY persons were arrested in the 24-hour anti-illegal drug campaign of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) on Tuesday, April 12.

Chief Inspector Mark Anthony Darroca, chief of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, said 22 of the 31 police stations conducted the operations, which was part of their “One-Time, Big-Time” operation against illegal drug personalities in the province.

Darroca said the operations led to the recovery of 99 sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and four firearms. However, the total estimated market value of the recovered illegal drugs has yet to be determined, pending results from the crime laboratory.

So far, the biggest drug haul was reported in the cities of Himamaylan and Victorias, where some 25 grams of shabu with an estimated market value of P150,000 and 20 grams of shabu worth P120,000, respectively, were seized by operatives in separate buy-bust operations.

In Manapla town, two siblings were arrested in separate drug busts, with a recovery of six sachets of shabu and an improvised firearm.

Also, Silay City’s 10th most wanted drug personality yielded four sachets of shabu.

Six suspects were arrested in an operation while 18 sachets of shabu were seized in Kabankalan City.

Eight sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia were recovered from two suspects while an alleged drug trafficker was also arrested gave up five plastic sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia in Isabela town.

In Binalbagan town, three suspects yielded two sachets of shabu.

Another man was collared after yielding two sachets of shabu in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Magticol Proper, Toboso town.

Police also arrested another drug suspect in Barangay Daan-Banwa, Valladolid, town and recovered two sachets of shabu.

In San Enrique, police recovered two sachets of shabu and 22 pieces of marijuana cigarettes from a fish vendor in Talisay City.

Meanwhile, a couple was arrested at a police checkpoint in Murcia town after they yielded two sachets of suspected shabu.

Loose firearm

In Escalante City, a sugarcane worker at Sitio San Martin in Barangay Hacienda-P was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday due to indiscriminate firing.

Police identified the suspect as Wilson Camor, 35, a local resident.

Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, city police chief, said the Noccpo Public Safety Company was conducting combat operations in the area following the reported presence of armed groups when they heard gunfire from unidentified men.

After the inspection, Mansueto said police arrested Camor after he fired his gun when he heard a noise from the sugarcane field.

When police approached him in his house, Camor allegedly fired his .38-caliber pistol against them, but no one was hurt.

Mansueto said charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law), Commission on Elections gun ban, and attempted murder were filed against Camor.
