VICTORIAS City bet Alyssa Louise Erika Jimenea was crowned Lin-ay sang Negros 2016, besting 22 other candidates in last night’s pageant held at the jampacked Panaad Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
Crowning her were her predecessor, Lin-ay sang Negros 2015 Jessica Zevenbergen of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental First Lady Marilyn Marañon, and Mutya ng Pilipinas 2015 and Tourism Queen International Leren Mae Bautista.
When asked to “share your thoughts as far as your love for Negros is concerned, and what can you do to transform these thoughts to reality,” a portion of Jimenea’s answer was: “Negros is not only the sugar capital of the Philippines, it has the people, places and products thus, we Negrosanons should advocate by starting within ourselves.”
Aside from the coveted crown, 22-year-old Jimenea received P60,000 in cash, sash, trophy, and a 100 percent scholarship.
She also won Best in Iconic Festival Costume, Lin-ay sang Organic, GMA Kapuso Choice, and Best in Evening Gown designed by Francis Libiran inspired by the flourishing solar power industry of Negros Occidental.
“The best lesson I have learned from this pageant is having the sense of responsibility, determination, and perseverance which helped me bring home the crown,” Jimenea said, adding that as the new Lin-ay Queen, “I am planning to continue my advocacy for children’s education in my city.”
Another crowd favorite, Lin-ay sang Murcia Louise Lian Enumerable, was first runner-up.
Enumerable, 19, was also awarded as Miss Photogenic. She received P40, 000 in cash, sash, trophy, and 75 percent scholarship.
Nineteen-year-old Artmarie Getonzo of Sipalay City received P20,000 in cash, sash, trophy and 50 percent scholarship after she was named second runner-up.
Rounding up the top five were Lin-ay sang Bacolod Ivy Benedicto and Lin-ay sang Toboso Praire Yhasmine Mandayonan.
Also included in the top 10 were Lin-ay sang La Carlota Juna Mae Perez, who also won as Best in Swimsuit; Lin-ay sang Sagay Paolynn Louise Lacson; Lin-ay sang Cauayan Princess Dhalia Quiocson; Lin-ay sang Hinigaran Danielle Rose Ferraren; and Lin-ay sang San Carlos Rosselle Ann Ramas.
Other special awards went to Lin-ay sang E.B. Magalona Johan Marie Javelosa, Lin-ay sang Dunang Manggad; and Lin-ay sang Hinoba-an Marianne Dalipe, Miss Congeniality.
Tony de Ramos won as Best Designer for the gown wore by Lin-ay sang Sagay.
Comprising the board of judges were 2014 Fashion Asia Top Male Model June Macasaet, Century Tuna’s Superbods 2014 Mauro Francesco Lumba, model and actor Joselito Riguerra, Lin-ay sang Negros 2005 Rizza Liz Catigan-Gordon, and 2004 Binibining Pilipinas contestant Tracy Javelona Saez.
Other candidates were Justine Marie Baer (Bago City), Cindy Angelo Yanga (Binalbagan), Ermalyn Aureta (Cadiz City), Sarah Magne Bautista (Calatrava), Allen Gigante (Candoni), Ma. Jemela Fortaleza (Ilog), Vanessa Keith Adera (Kabankalan City), Hezamae Gerale (Pontevedra), Jemmel Badera (Salvador Benedicto), and Erna Torreblanca (Silay City), Febbie Meriveles (Talisay City).
Witnessed by more than 20,000 crowd, the 2016 Lin-ay sang Negros pageant night was hosted by Kapuso artists Benjamin Alves and Max Collins.
