THE robbers who struck a jewelry store in Super Metro in Carcar City last Saturday night stole some P10 million worth of jewelry.
Senior Supt. Clifford Gairanod, the Cebu Provincial Police Office director, disclosed the amount to reporters yesterday.
The police official said the robbers took all of the jewelry from the store, a concessionaire in the department store in Barangay Valladolid.
Operatives are already tracking down the perpetrators, who, Gairanod believes, are still in Cebu, waiting for a chance to flee to other provinces.
Gairanod said the group possibly comes from a province in Mindanao.
In a separate interview, Regional Intelligence Division Chief Rex Derilo said they are looking for 10 persons who carried out the heist.
New footage of closed-circuit television cameras from neighboring towns are already in the custody of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 and will be examined by experts.
Gairanod said copies of the first “clear footage” of a CCTV camera from the department store was already sent to their police counterparts in Mindanao and Manila, to check if the persons involved in the heist were engaged in previous crime incidents.
Investigators will also determine if the group has local contacts in Cebu.
The store’s CCTV video shows some men who took some jewelry but did not exit the store along with the robbers.
Gairanod said the heist was well planned because the robbers carted away the jewelry in just two minutes.
In past incidents, some of the groups that used hammers in robbing jewelry stores were dubbed as “martilyo gang” and used similar modus in Ozamiz City.
