Bautista: Comelec to use different website for poll results

COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Juan Andres Bautista said the website to be used to release the results of the May 9 national and local polls is different from the website that was hacked recently.

He noted that the two websites are different from one another.

"Well 'yun po kasi website na na-hack 'yun ay aming public info website kung saan nakalagay personal details ng mga botante. 'Yung gagamitin natin website para sa resulta ng halalan ay iba. Hindi po sila magkapareho," the poll body chief said in a radio interview.

At the same time, Bautista apologized for the release of voters' personal data last week because of the hacking incident.

"Ako naman kumbaga ay humihingi ng paumanhin sa ating mga kababayan. Talagang hindi kanais nais ang pangyayaring ito," he said.

Bautista assured that they are doing their best to prevent such incident from happening again, noting that the hacking incidents are not only happening in the country but also in other parts of the world.

"Huwag po mabahala na mahack 'Yung website na gagamitin para sa ating halalan...tinitingnan namin kung paaano nga palalakasin at sisiguraduhin na hindi ma-hack itong website na ito," he added.

Bautista said that there is no such thing as a system that cannot be hacked, but he was informed that the website that they will use in the forthcoming polls, hackers will have a hard time to deface it.

"Dapat natin bantayan din 'yung mga safeguards nakalagay d'yan dapat siguraduhin gagana yan. We cannot be complacent," he added.

Meanwhile, the poll body chief said that they are ready to face cases that can be filed against them as a result of the hacking incident.

"Well kami naman po haharapin namin kung anuman kaso isasampa laban sa amin," he said.

Last week, the website wehaveyourdata.com uploaded what appeared to be the details about the registered voters from the Comelec website.

Found there is the hacked voters' list as it lets anyone search for any names listed in the database from Comelec. The data included birth dates, fingerprints, passport details and addresses among other information. (FP/Sunnex)
