NPA frees abducted soldier in Davao

THE New People’s Army released an Army soldier on Tuesday, just a day after they freed five policemen who they also held as captives.

Major Ezra Balagtey, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, said on Tuesday that a helicopter carrying Private First Class Edgardo Hilaga and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte arrived at Camp Panacan at 5:30 p.m.

"Duterte facilitated the negotiation with the rebels to release Hilaga. He arrived here without any visible physical injuries," Balagtey said.

He added that Hilaga is still undergoing some medical treatments and will be sent home shortly after the results would be given.

The 24-year-old soldier of the 7th Infantry Battalion-602nd Brigade in Barangay Malasila, Makilala town in North Cotabato was abducted by the NPA in a military checkpoint last April 21.
