ANS, STC top U18

ABELLANA National School and St. Theresa’s College topped their rivals to win the Boys and Girls 18-Under divisions, respectively, at the Don Bosco Technological Center late Saturday.

ANS, which is in the middle of its pre-season training camp, defeated host DBTC, 1-0, to win the 18-Under crown against a team that played in the Palarong Pambansa recently.

“Polly Jeremy Lacaray sent in a lob and the Don Bosco keeper mistimed his clearance and the ball went straight to the goal,” said ANS coach Francis Ramirez.

It was the second straight win for ANS that day over Don Bosco, which was missing some of its key players from the Palaro, as it also won, 1-0, in the group stage. In the semifinal round, ANS blanked the visiting Alegria team, 3-0.

Aside from Lacaron, the other members of the team are Christian Orande, Alkie Gabatbat, Arnel Armamento, Kurt Cuizon, Vengie Lagrama, Lloyd Antiporta, Dave Arizala, Jade Baguio, Juvy Claro, Joshua Gonzalve, Kenneth Niaga, Tatit Mapa and AJ Siege.

On the other hand, STC survived San Roque FC, 2-1, to win the Girls 18 title. San Roque started on the wrong foot in the final with an own goal and Amber Villaflor added an insurance goal from a free kick. San Roque got one back but it was too late.

It was a welcome reversal for STC, which lost to San Roque via shootout in the group stage.

Aside from the goal scorer, the other members of the team are Ping Sandigan, Lara Misa, Jan Reese Jumawan, Kaye Sarmiento, Karina Curvo, Arianne Poblacion, Lea Birondo, Erika Tejano, Laela Borromeo and Yula Cabanada.

Meanwhile, in yesterday’s matches Erco FC A survived sister team Erco FC B, 3-2, to win the women’s title, while Shooting Star hit the moon with a 3-1 win over Aegis FC to win the men’s open title.

In the Executive 45-Above division, Cebu Amateur Football Club beat Don Bosco, 1-0, to win the crown.

The 5th BRO Cup, organized by Engr. Keith Buyco, Glen Ramos and Rodney Orale, attracted over a 100 teams including entries from Bohol and Dipolog. The organizers planned to hold a bigger edition next year.
