THE common-law wife of presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Cielito “Honeylet” Avancena, protested the Philippine Star news that listed her mother’s property as among the properties that Duterte allegedly kept secret as claimed by vice presidential candidate Antonio Trillanes IV.
Avancena’s reaction was first reflected in a short status update on her Facebook account that read: “Pati bahay ng nanay ko, sinama ni Trillanes sa Phil Star.” This was followed by, “Manoy Trillanes, nagasundalo ka pa lng, nag nurse nako sa america year 2000.”
Sought out to explain further, Avancena replied through Facebook message that the 105 SM Village in Bankal, Davao City is her mother’s.
“Grade skul pa ko intawon sa sss nila get. Si ina mama ni lovely pati yung bigay nya noon na sila pa ni paolo sinali din. Wala yang mga dipolog nayan. Basta kay last name duterte gibutang nya (I was still in grade school when my mother bought that house through an SSS loan. Even the property given by Ina, Lovely Sankola’s mother, to Paolo when Paolo and Lovely were still husband and wife, is included in the list. The one in Dipolog is definitely not the mayor’s property. For as long as the last name is Duterte, Trillanes included in the list),” she said.
Sankola was Paolo’s first wife with whom he has two boys and a girl. They broke up several years ago and he is now married to January Duterte.
“Naningkamot bya ko, i can buy a property for my daughter. basta makaya ko (I am working hard, I can buy a property for my daughter for as long as I can afford it),” she added.
Her 12-year-old daughter with Duterte, Veronica Avancena Duterte, was also in the list for the property named for her but held in trust by Avancena.
“Ana gayud Te. Kay kabalo bya ka sitwasyon first, so kayod gayud. Whatver u see me wear, i use my own money to buy it (That’s how it is. You know the situation that’s why I have to work hard. Whatever you see me wear, I use my own money to buy it),” she said.
Avancena before settling back in Davao City worked as a nurse in the US from 2000-2004. She has also been running her own business for the past 17 years. At present she operates meat shops.
“Not defending Duterte this time. It’s me,” she added in her message.
Last May 1, Cagayan de Oro-based pediatric dentist Dr. Gian Paolo D. Duterte also came out with a statement in his Facebook account protesting the inclusion of his property as among the mayor’s hidden wealth.
“For the record, I am a practicing Pediatric Dentist for seven (7) years and I have established regular clients through private practice based in Cagayan de Oro City. Through my profession I was able to secure a loan from the Bank of the Philippine Islands to purchase the real estate property in Cagayan de Oro City mentioned in the reports of GMA 7 and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV,” Dr. Duterte wrote.
An online report also alleged that another person whose property was listed in the Trillanes expose came out last May 2 to belie that her property is the mayor’s.
The report said that Rueline “Roa” Yanson Duterte of Cebu talked to Radyo Totoo to say that the mansion in Sta. Clara Subdivision in Bacolod City that Trillanes included in his list is hers and not the mayor’s.
This report, however, only came out in okd2.com and could not be verified anywhere else.
