Suspect in shooting of Tuburan mayor's bodyguard arrested

A MAN believed to be one of the suspects in the shooting of a bodyguard of Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante was arrested in a hot pursuit operation Thursday dawn, May 5.

Several firearms and ammunition, including one unit of Carbine rifle, one shotgun, one caliber .45 pistol, assorted magazines and ammunition, were recovered from the suspect identified as Luduvico Oroquero, who was arrested in Barangay Montealegre.

Oroquero was tagged in the killing of Rene Cangmaong, a former New People's Army member, and bodyguard of Diamante. The victim was reportedly going to Barangay Gaang to deliver a letter to a local leader about a political gathering when the ambush happened Wednesday afternoon, May 4.

The operation Thursday was conducted around 3 a.m. by joint elements of the Regional Special Operation Group-Regional Intelligence Division Central Visayas, Cebu Provincial Intelligence Branch, Cebu Provincial Police Office, and Tuburan Police Station.

The evidences recovered from the Oroquero will be brought to the Police Regional Office Central Visayas for proper documentation and disposition.

Follow-up operation is ongoing as of Thursday morning.
