Duterte still on top – SWS

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, the consistent front-runner in the 2016 presidential race, will march on into election day with a comfortable margin of 11 percent from his closest rival, even after vice presidential contender alleged that he has undeclared wealth.

Newly released data from the latest BusinessWorld-Social Weather Station (SWS) pre-election survey conducted in the first three days of May revealed that 33 percent still prefer the Davao City mayor as the country's next Chief Executive.

Duterte is followed in the ranking by independent candidate Senator Grace Poe with 22 percent, 2 points below her previous count.

Administration bet Manuel Roxas II is consistent in his third place finish at 20 percent.

Meanwhile, United Nationalist Alliance standard-bearer Vice President Jejomar Binay's ranking has been in a steady decline since January, and now at fourth place with 13 percent in the latest opinion poll. Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago's point remains the same at two percent.

Last Thursday, Duterte was greeted by the news that influential religious sect Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) will be endorsing his bid for presidency along with Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as vice president.

It is said that INC's backing can potentially propel a candidate into victory, which almost guarantees at least a million votes for the anointed candidates as the church's members are known to be committed to its alleged practice of bloc voting. (Sunnex)
