P1.18M ‘shabu’ found, not bomb: policemen

POLICE recovered a grenade and P1,180,000 worth of white crystals believed to be shabu from a motorcycle parked outside a school in Barangay Poblacion 8, Tuburan, Cebu yesterday afternoon.

A press identification card of Wilfredo M. Diamante, brother of reelectionist Mayor Democrito Diamante, was also found by the team led by SPO1 Reynaldo Solante of Provincial Intelligence Branch.

The senior police officer, in a phone interview, said they still have to check if Diamante is the owner of the vehicle and the suspected drugs will be submitted to the police crime laboratory for verification. Diamante is reportedly a barangay official.

The motorcycle reportedly scared some residents who thought it contained a bomb.

Senior Insp. Leo Logroño, the Tuburan police chief, said the information about the bomb threat came from a journalist working in Region IV-A, Calabarzon area, last Thursday.

The journalist relayed the information to Police Regional Office (PRO) 4, which in turn informed PRO 7 about the motorcycle (6182-GS) abandoned in a waiting shed about 10 meters from the gate of Cebu Technological University (CTU) campus.

After they learned about the motorcycle, Logroño and his team cordoned off the area outside the school.

Residents living near CTU and the school’s security failed to notice the person who left the motorcycle, which has a color combination of black and white.

The police also did not find closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the school’s vicinity.

Investigators will check other areas where there are possible CCTV cameras that captured the motorcycle’s driver.

The team of Solante, a bomb technician, was deployed to the town. Solante found the hand grenade inside the black bag, which hang from the motorcycle’s handlebars.

Further check on the bag led to the discovery of 20 big packs of suspected shabu. The contraband weighs 100 grams.

A radio dyTX press identification card of Diamante and a plastic containing 20 capsules were also recovered by Solante’s team.
