Gunmen kill ferry crew member in Sulu

GUNMEN have shot and killed the clearing officer of a commercial ferry in the province of Sulu, the police reported Sunday.

The Sulu Provincial Police Office reported that the incident took place at the port of Jolo, the capital of Sulu, around 6 p.m. Saturday.

The police identified the victim as Raymond Simbajon, 27, the clearing officer of M/V Mamamia of the Sing Shipping Lines.

Police investigation showed Simbajon was walking along the road when repeatedly shot by unidentified gunmen.

M/V Mamamia, a passenger-cargo vessel, plies the Zamboanga-Jolo route.

The police said Simbajon was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Simbajon’s remains arrived in Zamboanga City on Sunday morning en route to his hometown in Pagadian City.

The police said they have yet to establish the motive of the incident. (Bong Garcia)
