Vote counting machine problems delay poll

THE hot weather condition in most parts of the country has aggravated the long queues and congested polling places, generally experienced by most of today’s early voters.

Malfunctioned vote counting machines (VCM) and wrong ballots delivered to precincts are among the problems encountered by the Commission on Elections during the early hours of elections.

Voting in the precinct of Vice Presidential candidate Leni Robredo was delayed after the VCM malfunctioned.

Despite the recent ambush try in Dumanjug town, authorities said it is still generally peaceful in Cebu province while minor problems were encountered in other provinces outside Cebu.

"Cebu Province is generally peaceful," said Senior Superintendent Clifford Gairanod, as of 9 a.m., Monday, May 9.

Superintendent Gairanod, Provincial Police Office director, said the province is peaceful however, they encountered several problems.

In Barangay Gabi, Cordova, the precincts 74A, 74B, 78A, and 78B have not yet started receiving voters because the ballot boxes delivered to them were intended for Dalaguete.

Gairanod said they are still looking for the ballot boxes for the precincts and Commission on Elections Central Visayas Director Jose Nick Mendros said that the voting will have to take place another day.
