COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista thanked Tuesday all the foreign observers who visited the country to witness the May 9 automated elections.
In his speech at the Comelec headquarters in Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), the chairman specifically thanked the representatives who came from these respective countries: Indonesia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Korea, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Timor and Leste.
"It is very good to speak to our foreign observers. These are countries that are contemplating in changing their electoral system from manual to automated," Bautista told the media after he delivered his speech.
The poll chief said that it is good that the Philippines was able to help and inform its neighboring countries on how the automated elections work.
"Usually, the Philippines is the one that is learning from other countries, now it is the other way around. They look to us for learning," Bautista said.
According to the poll chief, the Philippines, which he claimed as the leader in automated elections in Southeast Asia, will continue to help and assist other countries.
"As I have said, the Philippines can give you (observers) assistance in your elections. Do not hesitate to call us," the poll chief said. (FP/Sunnex)
